Women's Basketball Tripped Up 68-55 by St. Joseph's in Championship Game of Curry Tip-Off Tournament

MILTON, Mass.­­ - On the second day of the Curry College Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, the host Colonels fell against St. Joseph's in the Championship Game, 68-55, while St. John Fisher topped Southern Vermont in the Consolation Game, 70-17.

In the Tournament championship game, the Colonels took an early nine point lead (27-18) in the first frame after senior Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) sank a pair from the charity stripe with 6:54 on the clock. The Monks chipped away, trimming the deficit to four (34-30) heading into intermission. With 11:21 remaining in regulation, St. Joseph's took its first lead of the game (46-45) after junior Sarah Assante (Standish, Maine) converted a pair of free throws. The Monks maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game, scoring 22 of the game's final 33 points.

Senior Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) poured in a tournament-high 21 points and also pulled down eight boards to lead the Monks. Classmate Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) chipped in with 11 points.

Curry was led by junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) with a team-best 19 points, while sophomore Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) pulled down game-high 10 rebounds.

ST. JOHN FISHER 70, SOUTHERN VERMONT 17
The Cardinals opened the game on a 26-3 run en route to a 25-point halftime lead (33-8). The run began with a made three-pointer by sophomore Mary Kate Cusack (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and was capped off with a shot from beyond the arc by junior Brooke Seavitt (Oro, Az.) with 7:53 left in the first period.

Seavitt led St. John Fisher with 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore Claire Walsh (Binghamton, N.Y.) added 10 points. Cusack contributed with eight points and six steals.

Sophomore Javasha White (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the Mountaineers with four points and seven rebounds, while classmate Sarah McDonald (Cohoes, N.Y.) pulled down six boards.


Named to the All-Tournament Team were: Lindsay Moore (St. Joseph's), Morgan Cahill (St. Joseph's), Kylie Beltz (Curry), Ashley Assarian (Curry), Camaryn Buckner (St. John Fisher), Sarah McDonald (Southern Vermont).
