WBB Handles Colby-Sawyer 74-54 For First TCCC Win of the Season

MILTON, Mass. - Curry broke open a tight game with a second-half surge and defeated Colby-Sawyer, 74-54, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Tuesday evening in Milton. The Colonels improve to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the conference.The Chargers are now 5-11 overall and fall to 2-2 in TCCC play.

The Colonels led at the break, 36-29 behind 14 points off the bench from freshman Julia Scrubb (Stowe, Vt.). The Chargers remained within striking distance despite 1-9 shooting from beyond the arc thanks to eight points by senior Terri Duffy and six points each from sophomore Maggie Rossi and freshman Sammi Lehr.

The story was similar in the second half as Curry added onto their lead with bench scoring and poor outside shooting by the Chargers. Colby-Sawyer was 0-10 from three-point land in the second 20 minutes, while Curry finished the game with a 35-15 edge in bench scoring.

Scrubb finished the contest with a game-high 23 points on 9-13 shooting. She also led the Colonels in rebounding with eight. The Colonels also received double-figure points from freshman Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.) with 14, and junior Jennifer Olejnik (Salem, Mass.) with 13.

Duffy led the Chargers with her eighth double-double of the season pouring in 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Rossi finished with eight points, eight assists and a career-high five steals.

Curry hits the road for a 2:00 p.m. contest this Saturday at Gordon College, while the Chargers host Nichols at 1:00 p.m.
