Softball Drops Pair to Endicott

Beverly, MA - The Curry softball team fell in both games of their doubleheader at Endicott on Saturday, falling to 9-7 on the season, and 0-2 in CCC play. The Gulls are now 9-2 and 2-0.

Game One

The Colonels fell 2-1 in the first game of the day, as Endicott won on a walk-off double. The Colonels struck first, scoring their lone run of the game on a Taylor McDermott homer in the second. Not only was it her first career home run, but also her 100th career hit.

The Gulls tied things up in the third on a solo homer of their own. The Colonels would threaten in the sixth, as they put two runners in scoring position with one out, but they were unable to push another run across. The Colonels would secure two quick outs in the bottom of the seventh, but a walk, followed by a wild pitch and RBI double gave the Gulls the win.

Both Madelyn White and McDermott had two hits, accounting for half of the team's eight hits. Jillian Rogers had one of those hits, and went 6.2 innings in the circle. She allowed just three hits and two earned runs. She struck out eight.

Game Two

The Colonels fell 11-4 in the second game of the day. The Gulls jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first inning. But the Colonels would answer in the second, scoring two runs on a Karlie Pontes triple, making it 5-2. Endicott would respond with one run a piece in each of the next two innings. The Colonels would then get two more runs in the fourth to make it 7-4. A Renee Gonneville RBI double scored the first run, and Jillian Rogers walked with the bases loaded to force home the next. With the tying run on base, the Colonels were unable to cause any more damage. The Gulls would add four more runs, ultimately winning 11-4.

Pontes was the lone player with multiple hits in the game. Caitlyn Wood was handed the loss, allowing four earned runs across three innings. She struck out four.
