Softball Sweeps Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, MA - The Curry softball team got back in the win column on Wednesday, sweeping Fitchburg State to move to 9-5 on the season. The Falcons now sit at 4-10.

Game One

The Colonels would take game one of the day by a 3-0 score. They struck early with two runs in the first. After a pair of walks, Madelyn White knocked the first run in with an RBI single. The next run came in on a Morgan Barmash sacrifice fly. It wasn't until the fifth that either team would score again, with White recording another RBI single. That would be all for the scoring in the game, as Jillian Rogers shut the Falcons down in the circle. She pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and one lone walk. She would set a new career high with 14 strike outs, besting her previous high of 13 from earlier in the season. She finished the game strong, striking out the final four batters of the game. In addition to her two RBI singles, White also had a double to give her a three hit game. Rogers also had a strong game at the plate, reaching base three times with a single and a pair of walks.

Game Two

Just like the first game, runs were at a premium in the second game. The Colonels would score once in the first, and that proved to be the only run of the game, as Curry took game two 1-0. That run came in on another Madelyn White RBI single, scoring Mary Rodrigues. Rodrigues had reached base with a triple. Those two hits ended up being half of the Colonels hits in the game, as they only had four total. The other two would be singles by Jordan Ferullo and Hailey King. Morgan Barmash went the first four innings in the circle, giving up no runs, and allowing just four hits and two walk. She struck out two batters. Caitlyn Wood would relieve her, going the final three innings for the save. She gave up just three hits, and struck out two.

Up Next - The Colonels will kick off their CCC regular season on Saturday when they take on Endicott at 12pm and 2pm.
