Softball Drops Last Two Games in Florida

Clermont, FL - The Curry Softball team played their final two games of their Spring Break trip on Friday, falling to both Ohio Wesleyan and Bowdoin. This marked the end of a long stretch where they played 10 games over six days. The Colonels end the trip with a stellar 7-3 record.

Game One vs Ohio Wesleyan

The game started off great for Curry, as Jillian Rogers retired all three batters in the first, and then the Colonels scored two runs on a Nina Covino two RBI single to go up 2-0. But the second inning proved to be a costly one for the Colonels, as they would give up 12 runs on nine hits and four errors. Ohio Wesleyan would tack on three more runs over the next two innings, and take the game 15-2. Of the 15 runs the Battling Bishops scored, only three were earned

Game Two vs Bowdoin.

The Colonels took on Bowdoin in their final game of the trip, and took an early 2-0 lead on a pair of sacrifice bunts in the first by Jordan Ferullo and Taylor McDermott. After the Polar bears scored three in the third, the Colonels responded immediately with two runs, the first on a passed ball, and the second on another sacrifice bunt, this time by Cailene Dupras. But the Polar Bears responded right back with three in the bottom half of the inning to back up 6-4. Mary Rodrigues inched the Colonels closer with an RBI double in the sixth. But once again Bowdoin answered, scoring twice more to take the win 8-5.

Jillian Rogers was the lone Colonel to record multiple hits. Caitlyn Wood got the start in the circle, and went four inning. Rogers relieved her, and struck out three.

Up Next - After flying back home, the Colonels will host UMass Boston on Tuesday at 3pm for their home opener.
