Rogers & Wood Combine for Softball's Second No-Hitter of 2023

SALEM, Mass. - The Curry College softball team were victorious in a lopsided 12-0 decision over Salem State University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 16-19-1 overall on the season.

The story of the afternoon was a combined no-hitter from sophomore Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) and junior Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.). Rogers threw three no-hit innings with eight strikeouts, while Wood mopped up with two no-hit innings in relief. Rogers was credited with the win, her seventh of the season.

The no-no is Curry's second of the season, as Rogers no-hit Franciscan University in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 16.

Curry got all the offense it would need in the top of the first inning, posting seven runs on the board before a Viking touched a bat. Junior Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.), sophomore Karlie Pontes (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Rogers all recorded RBI hits in the frame.

In the third, Curry stretched its lead to 12-0 by scoring five more runs. Freshman Mia Bianchi (New Milford, N.J.) delivered the biggest hit of the inning, a two-run single, as the Colonels put the contest out of reach.

Pontes was the only Colonel to record multiple hits in the victory, also driving in a pair and scoring a run. Bianchi and senior Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) also notched two runs batted in.

Next up for the Colonels, they will host Endicott College for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
