Colonels Swept by UNE in Conference Doubleheader

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Softball team was swept by Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent University of New England at home Saturday afternoon.

With the losses, Curry moves to 11-15-1 overall on the season and 2-6 in the CCC.

 

Game 1: Curry 2, UNE 3

Curry's Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) opened the scoring in the conference matchup, launching a solo home run to left field, granting the Colonels a 1-0 lead over the visiting Nor'Easters in the bottom of the third inning. 

The University of New England Nor'Easters responded in the top of the fourth with two RBI doubles to grab a 2-1 lead over the Colonels. 

The Colonels re-tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth on a Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) sacrifice fly, driving Alli Mansfield (Georgetown, Mass.) in to score.

UNE's Kenzie Bessette notched an RBI triple in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead over the Colonels. Curry would not be able to catch the visiting Nor'Easters' lead, falling to UNE 3-2 in the first matchup of the afternoon.

 

Game 2: Curry 0, UNE 8

The visiting Nor'Easters notched eight runs through the top of the fifth inning while holding the Colonels to just three hits and no runs, closing out the contest 8-0 in five innings.

Curry will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to face Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup set for 12 & 2 PM.
