NEWPORT, R.I. - The Curry College softball team suffered a sweep at the hands of Salve Regina University Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Toppa Field. Curry was doubled up 6-3 in game one, before being blanked 6-0 in game two.

With the sweep, Curry drops to 9-10 overall on the season, and opens CCC play at 0-2.

Game 1 - Salve Regina 6, Curry 3

The Colonels took an early lead, but could not hold on as Salve Regina took game one by a final score of 6-3.

Curry fell behind in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single, but only trailed for an inning and a half.

The Colonels got one run back in the top of the second when sophomore Karlie Pontes (Dartmouth, Mass.) crossed the plate on a wild pitch. A frame later, junior Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) gave Curry the lead with a two-run double, putting the visitors ahead 3-2.

A double to centerfield tied the score back up at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, before a three-run bottom of the fifth put the contest out of reach.

McDermott led the Colonels offensively with a pair of hits in four at-bats to go along with a pair of runs batted in. Sophomore Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, a run scored, and a double.

Game 2 - Salve Regina 6, Curry 0

Curry could not get its offense going in game two as Salve Regina closed out the sweep.

The Seahawks scored once in the second and five times in the bottom of the fifth to account for all of their offense in game two

McDermott roped a pair of hits for the second game in a row to pace the Colonels.

Rogers and seniors Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) and Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) each recorded a single hit for Curry.

Next up for the Colonels, they will return to action on Monday afternoon to continue CCC play at Nichols College. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
