Colonels Split With Bulldogs

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College softball team split its first doubleheader back home on D. Forbes Will Field against non-conference opponent Dean College.

With the split, Curry moves to 7-6 overall on the season.

 

Game 1 - Curry 3, Dean 0

The Colonels struck first in the opening matchup of the afternoon doubleheader in Milton, Mass., with sophomore Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) singling to center field, pushing Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.) in to score. 

Curry grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, sophomore Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) scoring on an Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) groundout. 

Curry's final run of the opening doubleheader came in the bottom of the fifth, Jillian Rogers scoring on an error by the Dean right fielder, sealing the 3-0 win for the Colonels.

On the hill, sophomore Jillian Rogers was awarded the win with seven innings pitched, just two hits allowed, and 11 strikeouts.

 

Game 2 - Curry 4, Dean 6

The visiting Dean College Bulldogs took charge in the second matchup of the afternoon, notching five runs through the first five innings. 

The Colonels found their bats in the bottom of the fifth, Emily Bussiere scoring on a Jillian Rogers single up the left-field line to close in on the Dean College lead, 5-1. 

The bottom of the seventh inning saw three additional scores by the Colonels, however, they would not be able to catch the Bulldogs' lead, falling 6-4 in the second matchup of the day.

Curry was paced by Jillian Rogers who marked 3-for-4 at-bat with one RBI, one run scored, and two doubles in the second matchup of the day.

Curry will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to face non-conference opponent Albertus Magnus at 12 &2 PM.
