Softball Drops Pair on Senior Day

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College softball team fell twice in a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader against Western New England University on Saturday afternoon at D. Forbes Will Field. Western New England took game one 8-0 in six innings, before claiming a 5-2 victory in game two.

With the losses, Curry closes its season with a record of 7-32 overall and 3-15 in CCC action.

Prior to game one, Curry honored Sienna Kulpa (Taunton, Mass.) and Lexi Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) for Senior Day. The two seniors were joined on the field by their friends and families.

Game 1 – Western New England 8, Curry 0 (6 Innings)

Curry managed just two hits in game number one, as the Golden Bears bested the Colonels in an abbreviated affair.

Western New England scored six times in the top of the second, all unearned, to take early control of the contest. They scored two more times in the top of the sixth to account for all of their offense.

Junior Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) recorded Curry's only two hits of the contest.

Sophomore Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.) took the loss for Curry in the circle, despite allowing no earned runs over three innings.

Game 2 – Western New England 5, Curry 2

The Colonels attempted to rally back from a four-run deficit after three and a half innings, but were unable to close the gap all the way.

The Golden Bears scored twice in both the top of the first and second innings to jump ahead early. Curry scored once in the bottom of the first on a Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) sacrifice fly to score Bussiere.

In the bottom of the fourth, with the Colonels trailing 5-1, Kulpa recorded the final RBI of her collegiate career on a base hit to centerfield, scoring freshman Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) from second base.

Curry roped eight hits in game two, led by three from Bussiere and two from junior Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Freshman Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) threw a complete game for Curry, allowing five earned runs over seven innings with four strikeouts.
