Softball Knocked Off Twice by Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Curry College softball team was knocked off twice by Endicott College Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Endicott Softball Field. Curry fell 8-0 in six innings in game one, before falling 9-1 in five innings in game two.

With the pair of defeats, Curry falls to 5-22 overall on the season and 1-7 in the CCC.

 

Game 1 - Endicott 8, Curry 0 (6 Innings)

Curry had no answer for Endicott junior Maria Hanchuk, who threw a no-hitter in game one to earn her eighth win of the season.

The Colonels managed five baserunners in the contest, but failed to advance anyone beyond second base. Sophomore Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) was the only Colonel to reach base twice, with one walk and one hit by pitch.

Freshman Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss for Curry, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. 

 

Game 2 - Endicott 9, Curry 1 (5 Innings)

Curry managed more offense in game number two, but couldn't keep Endicott's bats quiet as the Gulls closed out the sweep.

Endicott scored four times in the bottom of the first inning before Curry scored its only run of the afternoon in the top of the second.

Freshman Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.) led off the frame with a double down the left field line, followed by an infield hit by McDermott. A batter later, junior Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a run batted in when she reached on a throwing error by the Endicott pitcher, scoring Okleasky from third base.

Endicott worked around a Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) single and stolen base in the top of the third, and scored twice in the bottom of the third and fifth innings, with a single run in the fourth, to seall the victory.

Sophomore Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.) took the loss for Curry in game two, allowing five earned runs over 4.1 innings.

 

Curry will be back in action with a home CCC doubleheader against Suffolk University next Saturday. First pitch in game one is slated for 12 p.m.
