Softball Suffers Pair of Shutouts Against Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. - The Curry College softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference contests to the Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field. Curry dropped game one 7-0 and game two 1-0.

With the defeats, Curry falls to 4-15 overall on the season and opens CCC play at 0-2.

Game 1 - Wentworth 7, Curry 0

Three runs in the bottom of the first and a two-run home run in the bottom of the second were more than enough to lift the host Leopards over the Colonels in game one.

Curry piled up only four hits in the defeat. The Colonels threatened in the top of the sixth inning after infield singles from Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.) and Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.), but were unable to push any runs across.

The loss was dealt to sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.), who allowed five earned runs in four innings of work with one strikeout.

Game 2 - Wentworth 1, Curry 0

Curry freshman pitcher Hailey King (Cranston, R.I.) tossed an absolute gem in the circle, but was outdueled by Wentworth's Kayla DeMedeiros.

King threw a complete game, allowing only one run (unearned) on four hits. Game two's only run came on a second inning throwing error that held up as the winning run.

DeMedeiros allowed just two hits over seven innings to pick up the victory for the Leopards.

Curry's only two hits were singles, an infield hit by White in the top of the first and a base hit to right field by sophomore Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) in the fourth.

Curry will look to pick up its first conference victories when they return to the diamond on Sunday for a twinbill against Nichols College at D. Forbes Will Field. First pitch in game one is slated for 12 p.m.
