Colonels Drop Doubleheader to Albertus Magnus Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Curry College Softball team was swept by non-conference opponent Albertus Magnus Sunday afternoon on the road.

With the losses, Curry dips to 4-11 overall this season

Game 1 - Curry 0, Albertus Magnus (5 Inn.)

Albertus Magnus struck first in the afternoon matchup, tallying three runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single and a two-RBI double. The hosting Falcons marked a two-RBI single and a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the third to bring their lead to 7-0.

Albertus Magnus' defensive personnel held the Colonels off in the top of the fourth, forcing Curry to go down 1-2-3.

The Falcons would then record the final run in the first matchup of the afternoon doubleheader on a single to left-center from Peyton Davis to bat in Ava Gladwin, sealing the victory for Albertus Magnus.

Game 2 - Curry 4, Albertus Magnus 5

The Curry bats came alive in the second game of the afternoon matchup. Camryn Willis (Foxboro, Mass.) scored the first of the Colonels' runs from a Sienna Kulpa (Taunton, Mass.) groundout to shortstop. Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) batted in the second run with an RBI single to center field to drive Lexi Buckner in, putting the Colonels up 2-0.

Curry's Schwartz marked her second RBI of the afternoon with a triple down the right-field line, sending Caitlin Magnuson (Thomaston, Conn.) in for the Colonels' third run.

Albertus found their bats in the bottom of the fifth, Ava Gladwin tallying an RBI single to center-field to put her side on the board.

The Colonels extended their lead in the top of the seventh, Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) doubling into right-center to send Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) into home, putting Curry up 4-1.

Down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh, Albertus would bring their dominant bats back from game one of the doubleheader. An RBI single from Peyton Davis brought the lead within two. Albertus chipped away at the Curry lead, Erin Molkenthin reaching first on an error by the Colonels' first baseman while also sending Janelle Franklin for the third Falcon score. Albertus Magnus took the contest on a Caitlyn Wood two-RBI single to right field, closing the matchup at 5-4 in favor of the hosting Falcons.
