Colonels Dominate in First Win of the Season

CLERMONT, FLA. - The Curry College Softball team stunned non-conference opponent MCLA in a dominant 14-2 victory through five innings Monday afternoon.

The win over the MCLA Trailblazers marks the Colonels' first victory of their young season.

Curry's Natalia Okleasky (Coventry, R.I.) put the Colonels on the board first with a score following a wild pitch. The Trailblazers answered back in the bottom half, tying the contest at one run apiece.

The two sides did not stay tied up long as they tallied three more runs in the top of the third inning. Madelyn White (Franklin, Mass.) capitalizing on a play at first, dashed for home and arrived safely, giving the Colonels the lead they would hold the remainder of the contest. A double from Okleasky batted in Madison Schwartz (Bridgewater, Mass.) for the second scoring run of the second. Shortly after, an error at first base following a Jordan Ferullo (Burlington, Mass.) shot down the line prompted a safe walk home from Emily Bussiere (Stow, Mass.).

The Colonels tallied six more runs in the third inning. Okleasky marked her second double of the afternoon, sending Emily Bussiere and Sienna Kulpa (Taunton, Mass.) in to score. A Lexi Buckner (Foxboro, Mass.) single down the left-field line batted in the eighth run for the Colonels. To cap off the dominant third inning, Curry's Sienna Kulpa blasted a shot down the left-field line, sending Taylor McDermott (Durham, Conn.) in for the 11th run of the game, Curry's 10th.

In the fifth inning, both Caitlyn Wood (Saugus, Mass.) and Madison Schwartz marked doubles to left-center, Wood tallying two RBIs; Shwartz tallying one RBI.
