MILTON, Mass. – Curry College Director of Athletics Vinnie Eruzione announced today that Alex Campione will join the College as the new Head Coach of the softball program.

"I am super excited to have Alex join our coaching staff at Curry College," said Eruzione. "Her love and passion for the sport of softball, along with her coaching experience in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), made her the perfect fit for Curry. The success of her players, not only on the playing field but in the classroom and the community, are of great importance to her, and I believe our softball student-athletes will be excited as well."

Since 2018, Campione has served as Head Softball Coach at Salem State University, where she led the squad to an impressive academic record, as the program held a 3.4 GPA throughout both seasons.

Campione helped the Vikings' softball program reach new heights in her two and a half years at the helm. Her 2019 team held the highest batting average in program history. Additionally, she recruited and matriculated 12 student-athletes, eight of which were out of state. Campione also coordinated and ran the program's first Prospect Clinics and Youth Series. She was involved in fundraising, established a Leadership Committee to cultivate development, and facilitated weekly leadership meetings with selected student-athletes.

No stranger to the CCC, Campione spent three seasons as the Head Softball Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology.  While with the Leopards, Campione guided Wentworth to their most successful season in seven years while increasing the teams' performance in statistical categories across the board. Wentworth tied the program record for a winning streak during the 2017 campaign and received their first weekly conference award since 2012. She also served as the department liaison for Project 40, a campus-wide initiative developed to help students' take control of their happiness by building resiliency skills. 

Before at Wentworth, Campione was an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce University. With the Ravens, she worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers. During her first season in 2014, Franklin Pierce tied a program record for most conference wins in a single season.

Campione earned a B.A. in English and a B.S. in Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in 2013. She was a two-sport athlete with the Crusaders, playing one season of softball and her final three years as a member of the Crusaders' women's ice hockey program.

"Throughout the interview process it was clear to me that Curry is committed to providing a high-quality student-athlete experience. I can't wait to meet the rest of the team and get to work!"

Campione completed her master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and Sport Psychology from Boston University in 2015. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and is serves as the Director of Treatment at the Brandon Residential Treatment Center.

A native of Townsend, Mass., Campione attended the Pomfret School in Connecticut where she earned 12 varsity letters in field hockey, ice hockey, and softball. She was the 2009 recipient of the Pomfret Bowl, given to the best athlete in the class vote of her peers.
