Softball Runs Win Streak to Six With Doubleheader Sweep of CCC Rival Gordon

MILTON, Mass. – Senior Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) tossed a one-hitter in the opener, and freshman Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.) collected nine RBI over two games, as Curry College picked up a doubleheader sweep over visiting Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball action Wednesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels captured the opener, 7-0, and then finished off the Fighting Scots by prevailing 13-1 in five innings in the nightcap. Curry extended its win streak to six, improving to 11-7 overall and 2-0 in league play while Gordon fell to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in CCC action.

GAME 1

Ahearn was in control in the opener, allowing no walks while striking out two over seven innings. She improved her season record to 8-1. Bruno went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a third-inning two-run home run.
Gordon's lone hit came off the bat of sophomore Marissa Meenan (Wayne, Pa.), who stroked a single to left field in the fourth inning. Senior Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) went the distance in a losing effort, tossing six innings while allowing 13 hits and six earned runs.

GAME 2
 
In the nightcap, Curry scored in each of the first four innings. The highlights were a first-inning two-run double from Bruno; another two-RBI double from Bruno in the second inning; and a three-run home run from senior Megan Flaherty (Medway, Mass.) in the bottom of the third. Gordon tallied its lone run in the top of the third with a run-scoring groundout from Bareford that scored junior Rachel Ryder (Telford, Pa.), who had led off the inning with a double.
 
Bruno went 3-for-4 with five RBI while Flaherty finished 1-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored. Senior Jennifer Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) went the distance, tossing five innings allowing three hits, no walks and one earned run while striking out five. Bareford took the loss, surrendering six hits, three walks and four earned runs over three innings.

Curry will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a CCC twin bill starting at 1 p.m. Gordon returns home on Friday to host league rival Wentworth for a pair starting at 3:30 p.m.
