MILTON, Mass. - April 8-14 is NCAA Division III Week, recognizing the athletic and academic accomplishments of Division III Student-Athletes. Each day this week, we recognize a senior student-athlete on one of Curry College's five varsity spring sports teams.

#9 Mikaela Carney, Senior, Catcher/Outfield, 5-4, North Reading, Mass.

2013: Team Captain…To date, has played in 16 games, starting in 14…Currently batting .282 (11 for 39) with 11 runs batted in and five runs scored.

2012: Team Captain…Played in 32 games, starting in 22…Batted .271 (19 for 70) with seven runs batted in and seven runs scored…Named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference Team.

2011: Played in 31 games, starting in 25…Batted .303 (23 for 76) with 18 runs batted in and seven runs scored.

2010: Played in 38 games, starting in 37…Batted .238 (24 for 101) with 12 runs batted in and 11 runs scored…Presented with team’s “Unsung Hero Award.”

High School: Carney is a 2009 graduate of North Reading High School…Played softball for four years for Coach Rusty Russell, and ran cross country for one year for Coach Derek Dorval…Senior year softball team captain…Recipient of team’s MVP Award and Coaches’ Award…Extracurricular activities included: National Honor Society, Interact, SADD.

Personal: Daughter of Michael and Jolene Carney…Major: Nursing…Member of Curry College Student Nurses Association…Dean’s List student currently maintains a 3.46 GPA through seven semesters…Member of the Class of 2013.
