Softball Closes Out CCC Regular-Season Play with a Doubleheader Split Against Visiting Gordon
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College and Gordon College split a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels took the opener, 6-2, before the Fighting Scots rebounded with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory in the nightcap. Curry now stands at 20-17 overall on the season and 8-10 in CCC action. Gordon ends its season with a 9-26 record overall and a 4-14 mark in league play.

GAME ONE

In the opener, the Fighting Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run to left field by senior Kerry McPartlan. The Colonels responded with three runs in their half of the opening frame, with two runs crossing the plate on a home run to centerfield by freshman Ariel LaRosa.

Gordon cut the lead to 3-2 in the second on an RBI groundout by freshman Gabriel Roberts that scored sophomore Kendall Bukuras. That was as close as the visitors would come, as Curry tacked on single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to notch the 6-2 win.

Curry got multi-hit efforts from senior Joneiha Veiga and junior Mikaela Carney. Freshman Taylor Ahearn (10-7) picked up the win, tossing a complete-game, four-hitter. She allowed two earned runs and a walk while striking out seven over seven innings. Sophomore Skylar Bareford (4-12) took the loss, surrendering five hits, five earned runs and nine walks in her four innings of work.

GAME TWO

In the nightcap, both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when the Colonels took a 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Chelsey Munsey and a run-scoring grounder by LaRosa.

The Fighting Scots cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth when McPartlan singled to left and later came home on an error. Gordon then completed the comeback in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on four-consecutive singles with two outs.

The visitors were led offensively by McPartlan, senior Emily Borden, and freshmen Rachel Ryder and Kara Pepper who each had two hits. Senior Hannah Lawrence (3-7) notched the victory, going the distance while allowing just two hits, one earned run and a walk.

Sophomore Jennifer Lundstrom (5-6) absorbed the loss, hurling seven innings while giving up 10 hits, three earned runs and no walks, and striking out six.

Curry closes out its regular-season schedule with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday.
