Softball Grabs Two from the University of Maine at Farmington, 7-2 and 5-0
MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Softball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Maine at Farmington, capturing the opener 7-2 and the nightcap, 5-0. The Colonels now stand at 13-7 on the season, while the Beavers now hold a 2-4 record.

GAME ONE

Curry plated a single run in the first, thanks to a Caitlin Luquet RBI double that scored Amanda Felzmann. The Colonels increased their lead to 4-0 in the third, aided by run-scoring singles from Chelsey Munsey and Valarie LaSala. The hosts stretched their lead to 7-0 in the fourth, as Luquet and Munsey each collected their second RBI of the game. The third run of the inning came home on an Ariel LaRosa double that plated Munsey.

UMF finally dented the scoreboard in the sixth, as a Kaitlyn Bartlett base hit brought home Amy Jones. The Beavers added one more run in the seventh, thanks to a Devin Fitgerald single that scored Casey Mull.

Munsey (3-1) went the distance for the win, allowing four hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out two. Emma Vaillancourt (1-2) took the complete-game loss, surrendering nine hits, seven earned runs and three walks while fanning five.

GAME TWO

Curry got the only run it would need in the bottom of the second, as Tiana Sturtze reached on an error but drove in LaRosa, who led off the inning with a base hit. An RBI sacrifice fly by Paige Smigiel in the fourth increased the lead to 2-0. The Colonels then broke the game open in the sixth, scoring two runs on wild pitches and a third on a run-scoring single by Kaitlyn Maderios.

Taylor Ahearn (8-2) picked up her eighth win of the season, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits and no walks, while striking out eight.

Shannon Mitchell had two of her team's three hits. Barlett (1-2) was the losing pitcher, giving up six hits, three earned runs and four walks while fanning four over six innings.
