Softball Captures Opener, Drops Nightcap in Twin Bill at Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. – The Curry College Softball team split a twin bill at Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday afternoon, capturing the opener 10-0 in five innings, before dropping the nightcap, 2-0.

Curry’s shutout win in the opener was credited to sophomore Chelsea Munsey (Leominster, Mass.), who allowed just three hits in her five-inning stint on the mound. Munsey struck out five and walked just one in the contest.

The Colonels’ bats began to heat up in the second, putting together a two-hit, two-run second inning to take the early 2-0 lead.

Curry put together big fourth and fifth innings, scoring eight runs off of five hits and four Lions’ errors to take the 10-0 lead. Junior Amanda Felzmann (Bellingham, Mass.) led the charge, tripling in the fourth to score sophomore Megan Flaherty (Medway, Mass.) and singling in the fifth to score sophomore Heather Carrier (Scarborough, Maine).

Felzmann went 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the win. Carrier was 2-2 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Flaherty and senior Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) each had a pair of RBI and a knock in the victory.

The nightcap was a pitchers’ duel between two freshmen: ENC’s Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) and Curry’s Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.). Sorensen garnered her third win of the season, striking out eight and walking one. With the shutout victory, she moves to 3-3 on the year. Freshman Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) took the loss, also striking out eight, while giving up seven hits and no walks.
