Men's Tennis Concludes Season With Loss to Gordon

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team lost to visiting Gordon College by a 7-2 final on Saturday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The Fighting Scots improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), while the Colonels dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in league matches.

Curry led 2-1 after doubles action. The Colonels' first doubles pair of freshman Anthony Johnson (Boston, Mass.) and junior Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) snuck by senior Will Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) and sophomore John Marineau (Auburn, N.H.), 7-6 (7-5). The Fighting Scots would go on to take the final two doubles points. Senior Richard Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Mark Noschese (Wayne, N.J.) blanked sophomore Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), 8-0, at the No. 2 spot. Juniors Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and David Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 victory over senior Matt McEathron (Upton, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Ryzi (Littleton, Mass.) at No. 3.

In singles play, Jeffreys defeated Johnson 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while Marineau took down Russo at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-4. R. Ryzi grabbed his second point of the day with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Polasek. Noschese topped Bell, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 while McEathron and A. Ryzi earned wins at No. 5 and 6, respectively, to close out the sweep of singles play.

This marked the final match of the season for Curry.
