Men's Tennis Falls to Wentworth in Non-Conference Match

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology took all but one singles match in an 8-1 victory over Curry College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis contest at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The Leopards improved to 4-2 overall while the Colonels dropped to 0-6 overall on the season.

Wentworth coasted through doubles play and held a commanding 3-0 advantage entering the singles portion of competition. Seniors Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) won by an 8-6 final at No. 1 doubles against the Curry duo of freshman Anthony Johnson (Boston, Mass.) and junior Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.). The remaining two doubles matches were not as close as senior Taymour Mansi (Alexandria, Egypt) and freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) won by an 8-2 final and junior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) and senior Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) triumphed by an 8-4 tally.

Wentworth's five singles victories all came in straight sets. Gallegos topped Johnson at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-4. Hall won both his sets by 6-1 scores at No. 2 while Maus triumphed by 6-0, 6-1 finals at No. 3. Maki got bay junior David Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) by identical 6-4, 6-4 scores while Ferro defeated junior Vilhelm Peltonen (Helsinki, Finland) 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 5. The lone bright spot for the Colonels was junior Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) at No. 6, where he won the first set 7-5 before taking the second in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5).

Curry and Wentworth will play again on Saturday, April 17 in a conference match at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts, which is slated to begin at noon.
