Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Wentworth

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team began its 2021 season with an 8-1 loss to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The Leopards swept doubles play and then took five of six singles points to seal the victory. Wentworth improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play while the Colonels fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Leopards' first doubles team of freshman Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and senior Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) topped the freshmen pair of Anthony Johnson (Boston, Mass.) and Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), 8-7 (7-5) in first doubles. Junior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) and senior Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) topped junior Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) at second doubles, 8-3. Wentworth completed the doubles sweep when seniors Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) edged sophomore Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior David Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.), 9-7, at third doubles.

The Leopards continued their strong play into singles, winning at the No. 2 through No. 6 spots in straight sets. Johnson got by Gallegos 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 to capture Curry's lone point of the afternoon.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, March 31 at Endicott. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
