Men's Tennis Blanked By McMurry in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College men's tennis team lost a 9-0 decision to McMurry University at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The win moves the War Hawks to 4-8 overall while the Colonels slip to 0-2 on the season.

The first doubles tandem of senior Carlos Martinez (Monterrey, Mexico) and sophomore Chase Daniell (Wills Point, Texas) topped freshmen Isaiah Goldsmith (Mattapan, Mass.) and Andrew Barron (Needham, Mass.) in an 8-1 final. Junior Chris Causer (Lubbock, Texas) and junior Trey Fambrough (Aledo, Texas) defeated the freshman pair of Kevin Meade (Milton, Mass.) and Nicholas Bell (Haverhill, Mass.) by another 8-1 score. Senior Zach Miller (Abilene, Texas) and freshman Reid Smith secured the third doubles sweep for McMurry in a default.

The War Hawks continued momentum into singles play, only dropping five games across four matches. Miller took down Goldsmith at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1). Smith blanked Barron at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0). Junior Joseph Diaz (Fort Stockton, Texas) took down Meade at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1) while freshman Brynson Harmon captured the last point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bell at No. 4. McMurry captured the final two singles points via defaults.

Curry continues its Spring Break trip on Tuesday, March 10 against Brevard College at 6:30 p.m. in Orlando, Fla. McMurry will next play the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday in Orlando.
