NEWPORT, R.I. – The Curry College men's tennis team edged Salve Regina University for a 5-4 victory on Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at the Leroy Avenue Courts.

The Colonels improved to 4-13 overall (2-4 CCC) while the Seahawks dropped to 0-11 overall (0-6 CCC).

Curry came out of the gate strong, jumping out to a quick 2-1 advantage in doubles play. Junior Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and senior Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) knocked off juniors Aaron White (Falmouth, Mass.) and Trevor Jones (South Hamilton, Mass.), 8-1, in first doubles. Senior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) and freshman Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) took second doubles by an 8-4 final.

Salve Regina picked up one point in the final doubles pairing. Freshmen Matthew Newfield (Clinton, Conn.) and Michael Salazar (Carmel, N.Y.) defeated freshman Timothy O'Brien (Attleboro, Mass.) and senior Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.), 8-0.

In the singles portion of the competition, momentum swung in the direction of the Colonels. Roach made quick work of Jones at No. 1 by identical 6-0, 6-0 finals. Stento followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over senior D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.) at second singles.

Will Chasse () was able to sniff out a victory over Hefler at third singles in three sets. Chasse captured the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 before Hefler responded with a 7-6 score in the second. Chasse won a third set super tiebreak 10-2.

Russo got by White at No. 4 singles (7-6, 6-2) over White for the fifth point to give the Colonels the victory.

Newfield and Salazar came out victorious at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the final points for Salve Regina.

Curry wraps up the regular season at Gordon College on Wednesday, April 24 at 4:00 p.m. Salve Regina will next play Wednesday at home against Western New England University at 3:30.
