Men's Tennis Falls to St. Scholastica

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – St. Scholastica won all three doubles matches and took four of the six singles points of the day en route to a 7-2 victory over Curry College on Wednesday morning in non-conference men's tennis action at the Oak Street Park. With the win, the Saints improve to 5-6 overall while the Colonels slip to 0-3 and 2-0 in league play.

Curry received singles wins from senior Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) at No. 2 and freshman Lorenzo Russo (Lynnfield, Mass.) at No. 4. Stento's match went the distance and was eventually settled in a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a third set. Stento edged sophomore Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn.) in the first set 7-5. Hibbing responded by blanking Stento in the second set, 6-0. Stento outlasted Kearney in a third set super tiebreaker by a 10-5 final. Russo captured his match over sophomore Reed Kolles (Otsego, Minn.) in straight sets: 7-6, 6-3.

The contest began with the Saints claiming all three doubles points. St. Scholastica won convincingly at No. 1 but at No. 2 and No. 3 as the Saints edged Curry in both matchups, 8-6.

St. Scholastica won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets.

Curry wraps up its Florida swing on Thursday, March 14 against Ursinus at 8:00 a.m. at Oak Street Park.
