Men's Tennis Drops Fall Opener to Rhode Island College, 9-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Curry College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 match to Rhode Island College on Sunday afternoon to open their fall season. The Colonels fall to 0-1 on the season.

The Anchormen started the match with a 3-0 sweep of the doubles portion. Rhode Island College's first doubles team of Cam Chadwick and Mike Dickie defeated Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) and Sean Heller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) by an 8-1 final. The second doubles tandem of Brett Taggart and Alex Bourque took down Curry's Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) and Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) by an 8-3 score. The Anchormen took the third doubles point by default to close out the sweep.

Rhode Island College continued their strong play in the singles portion, capturing all six points. Taggart defeated Hefler at first singles by a final of 6-2, 6-1. Chadwick captured his match at number two singles over Heller in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Matt Gambardella won the third singles point, taking down Muller by 6-1 and 6-0 set scores. Ethan Hoy defeated Ritucci at fourth singles by a 6-0, 6-1. The Anchormen took the final two singles by default to take the match by a 9-0 final.

Curry return to action on Saturday when they host Emerson at noon.
