Men's Tennis Falls to Visiting CCC Foe Roger Williams, 9-0

MILTON, Mass.  – The Curry College men's tennis team fell to Roger Williams University 9-0 Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action in Milton. The Colonels fell to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the league while the Hawks improved to 9-4 and 6-0 in the CCC.

Junior captain Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and fellow junior captain Eric Labossonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) went to two sets to start the singles matchups with Labossonniere coming out on top 6-0 and 6-0. #2 single Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) got swept by senior Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) 6-2, 6-0. Senior captain Ryan Swanson (West Newbury Mass.) bested junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.) 6-1 and 6-1 in the third pairing. Sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, Mass.) fell to junior Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) was defeated by freshman Grant Rosenburg (Melville, N.Y.) in the fifth pairing 6-1 and 6-1. Senior Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) beat senior Jonathan Schutzman (Bellmore, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-0 to finish off the singles pairings.

The Colonels were also swept in the doubles sets starting with Swanson and Labossonniere winning 8-3 over Temin and Poulack, and then Bussiere and Bull won 8-1 over Paltsios and Hegarty. Finally Schwartz and Rosenburg bested senior Eric Hellberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and senior Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) 8-1.

The Hawks are scheduled to host Gordon College Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Colonels return to conference action as they travel to Endicott College Wednesday at 3 p.m.
