Men's Tennis Picks Up 6-3 Non-Conference Victory at Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Juniors Ted James (West Greenwich, RI) and Matt Collins (Rumford, RI) won at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively, but Curry College defeated Rhode Island College, 6-3, in collegiate men’s tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman Benjamin Proctor (Cumberland, RI) combined for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Anchormen (1-4).

James won (7-5 (7-5), 6-2) and Collins also earned a straight set victory (6-4, 6-1).

Curry (2-7) senior Tyler Collins (Oyster Bay, NY) defeated Werchadlo at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2), while freshman Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) went three sets (6-1, 1-6, 6-4) with Proctor.

Freshman Charlie Paltsios (Westford, MA) and classmate Rob Knight (Port Jervis, NY) each secured straight set wins at No. 3 and 6 singles and combined for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Colonels resume play on April 8, hosting Anna Maria in a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
