Men's Tennis Falls to Visiting Western New England, 8-1, in CCC Action
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Men’s Tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to visiting Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday afternoon in Milton. The Golden Bears won their CCC opener and improved to 2-4 overall. The Colonels fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Western New England opened the match by sweeping all three doubles. Senior JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, Conn.) and freshman Peter Nassar (Longmeadow, Mass.) shut out freshman Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) and junior Paul Jeppesen (Newington, N.H.), 8-0, at #2. Senior Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and freshman John Mindek (Willington, Conn.) easily handled the junior duo of Evan Fishman (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.), 8-1, at #3. The #1 doubles match went to a tiebreaker, where the Golden Bears’ team of junior Chris Holzinger (Foster, R.I.) and freshman Peter Lefrancois (Marlborough, Mass.) outlasted the Curry pair of junior Tyler Collins (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and freshman Cameron Chamberlain (Scituate, Mass.), 9-8 (7-3).

The Colonels managed just one win in singles, as Chamberlain notched a 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 come-from-behind victory at #2 over Ouellette. Two other singles competitions went to tiebreakers, as freshman Greg Tischofer (Portland, Conn.) put away Donaway, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7, at #4; and sophomore Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, Vt.) took care of Berger, 7-6 (7-0), 3-6, 10-2, at #6. Holzinger, Fitzpatrick and Lefrancois all notched routine wins for Western New England.

The Golden Bears return to action tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Sage (NY). Curry hosts non-conference foe Rhode Island College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
