Men's Tennis Season Ends With 6-3 Loss at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team knocked off visiting Curry College, 6-3, on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater. [Box Score]

The host Bears improve to 7-5 on the season, while the Colonels slip to 3-13.  Bridgewater captured two of three doubles matches and four of six singles flights to come away with the victory.

Senior David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) paced the Bears with a straight set win at the top singles flight.  After posting a 6-4 decision in the first set, Campbell led 4-0 in set two when his opponent was forced to retire due to injury.  Cambell also teamed with junior co-captain Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, Mass.) for an 8-1 triumph at first doubles.

BSU's freshman tandem of Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Joao Machado (Newton, Mass.) added an 8-6 victory at third doubles.  Gotlib also earned a 6-2, 6-0 straight set decision at number five singles.  Sophomore Nicholas Desisto (Uxbridge, Mass.) and freshman Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' singles winners at the fourth and sixth flights respectively.

Seniors Charlie Edlund (Hanover, Mass.) and J.D. Moyer (Cape Elizabeth, Mass.) picked up the Colonels' lone doubles point with an 8-4 win at the second flight.  Edlund edged Zagame in straight sets at second singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, while Moyer came back from a set down to win at third singles, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7.

Bridgewater will travel to Clark University tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 non-conference match with the Cougars, while today's match marked the regular season finale for Curry. (Match recap courtesy of BSU Sports Information)
