Men's Soccer Wins Big on Senior Night

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College won big on Senior Night, defeating the University of New England 7-2 Friday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer match at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 7-6-3 on the season and 2-3-2 in conference play.

Thirteen seniors were honored at halftime with a Senior Night Ceremony.

After going down by a goal early in the match, Curry tied the game at 1-1 on a throw-in in the 37th minute of play. Senior Laird Parker (Orleans, Mass.) launched the ball into the box from the left side of the field, connecting with Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.), who finished the score with a well-timed header into the upper left corner of the net.

Curry took the lead two minutes later when Nick Sailer (Burbank, Calif.) dribbled the ball to the right corner of the field and crossed the ball in front of the net to Ray Weinstein (Goshen, N.Y.), who found the top left corner of the net to put the Colonels on top 2-1.

The third Curry goal was scored in the 57th minute of play when JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.) sent a free kick into the box, where it bounced around, eventually finding Naytik Vora (Mumbai, India), who came flying into the box to finish the score with a header.

The Colonels scored again with 15 minutes remaining in the game when Weinstein set up Ryan Koster (Oak Bluffs, Mass. ) with a lead pass into the box that Koster managed to turn into a shot that snuck past the goalie to add to the advantage.

Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) joined the list of goal-scorers in the 78th minute of play with an unassisted goal. Martins found the back of the net for another score just four minutes later, this time he was assisted by Vora and senior Nick Norman (West Yarmouth, Mass.).

The onslaught didn't end there as the Colonels made the score 7-2 with a final goal scored by Ean McGonigle (Rehoboth, Mass.). Norman passed the ball to McGonigle on the play to record his second assist of the game.

Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y.) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, finishing with two saves in the win.

The Colonels led in practically every statistical category with 27 total shots, 13 shots on goal, and nine corner kicks compared to only 10 total shots, four on goal, and four corner kicks for the Nor'easters.

Curry College closes out the regular season with a home match against Wentworth on Tuesday (10/24). Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
