Men's Soccer Bested by Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Curry College men's soccer team fell short on their second half comeback bid in a 3-2 non-conference defeat to Plymouth State University Tuesday afternoon at Arold Field.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 6-2-3 overall on the season.

Plymouth State bookended the first half with goals in the first and 44th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Curry made things extremely interesting with goals 32 seconds apart in the 68th minute to level the score midway through the second half. Senior JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.) opened the scoring with a nifty shot into the bottom corner of the net off a feed from Ean McGonigle (Rehoboth, Mass.).

Moments later, a bouncing ball found its way back onto the foot of McGonigle at the top of the box. McGonigle looped a shot over the top of the Plymouth State keeper to even the score at 2-2.

The comeback effort would come up just short however, as the Panthers retook the lead in the 76th minute, holding on to defeat the Colonels by a 3-2 margin.

Rookie netminder Nathaniel Sama (Tiverton, R.I.) was credited with the loss for the Colonels, playing the second half and allowing one goal with four saves. Sophomore Justin Ritz (Carver, Mass.) made the start in net and also made four saves over 45 minutes.

Next up for the Colonels, they will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a home contest against Gordon on Friday evening. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
