Men's Soccer Rolls Past Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team shut down Worcester State University 3-0 in non-conference action at John F. Coughlin Field.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 5-1-3 overall on the season.

The Colonels wasted no time taking the early lead on the evening, as junior Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) scored the game's first goal just 2:50 into the contest. Drons took a feed from senior Ean McGonigle (Rehoboth, Mass.) on the right wing before slotting it home for his third goal of the season.

Just over three and a half minutes into the second half, Curry extended its lead to two on an unassisted tally by McGonigle. The senior stole the ball off the foot of a Lancer defender in the midfield before walking down the right side and depositing a shot into the cage for a 2-0 Colonel lead.

Exactly two minutes later, Curry netted a third goal, coming on an Adam Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.) penalty kick to all but put the game out of reach.

Between the pipes, Curry sophomore Justin Ritz (Carver, Mass.) earned his first collegiate victory and shutout, making five saves.

The Colonels will return to action on Friday with a road trip to Nichols College. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
