Men's Soccer Rallies Past Fitchburg State

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's soccer team scored two goals late in the second half to rally past Fitchburg State University 2-1 Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to 3-1-2 overall on the season.

Fitchburg State wasted absolutely no time getting on the board on Tuesday evening, as Gabriel Teixeira scored just 40 seconds into the contest to give the visitors an extremely early one-goal advantage. 

The Falcons would control the play in the first half, outshooting Curry 10-6 and carrying the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half turned in favor of the Colonels, as the hosts outshot Fitchburg State by a margin of 13-1 and led the corner count 8-0.

Curry finally got its breakthough in the 76th minute when senior Owen Bynum (York, Maine) headed home a JD Santiago (La Plata, Md.) corner kick to tie the score at 1-1.

Just 2:27 later, the Colonels took the lead for good, and again off a Santiago set piece. On a curling free kick from the left wing, senior Adam Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.) nodded home the game-winner. giving the game its final score of 2-1.

After allowing a goal on the first shot of the game, Curry sophomore netminder Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y.) rebounded to earn his third win of the season with a two-save effort.

Next up for the Colonels, they will continue Commonwealth Coast Conference play by hosting Roger Williams University on Saturday morning. Kick-off from Katz Field is slated for 11 a.m.
