BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Curry College men's soccer team earned its first league win of the 2022 season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the University of New England 3-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 5-3-1 overall on the season and 1-2-0 in CCC play.

The Colonels opened the scoring late in the first half, when junior Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) buried his second goal of the season. Martins took a pass from senior Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) in the left side of the box and had a layup to put Curry on top 1-0.

In the 64th minute, Curry extended its lead to two when a shot from the top of the box deflected in off a Nor'easter defender and over the netminder's head for a goal. Just three and a half minutes later, Drons assisted on the second goal of the season from junior Adam Pforr (Weymouth, Mass.) that pushed Curry's lead to 3-0.

Between the pipes, Curry senior Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) earned the victory with an eight save effort in just a shade over 80 minutes. In relief, freshman Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y.) made a single save to preserve the shutout.

Next up for Curry, the Colonels will play a non-conference contest against Plymouth State University at home on Wednesday evening. Kick-off from Walter M. Katz Field is slated for 7 p.m.
