Colonels Downed by Golden Bears in Conference Opener

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Soccer team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

With their first season loss, Curry moves forward with an overall record of 3-1-1 and 0-1-0 in the CCC.

The two conference sides saw no shots reach the back of the net through the opening 45 minutes of play on Walter M. Katz Field Saturday afternoon. The Colonels marked seven shots through the first half, while Western New England only marked three.

The visiting Golden Bears found the back of the net for the first time in the second half on a Mike Milazzo penalty kick, finding a gap past Curry freshman goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y). Just 13 minutes later the Golden Bears struck again, Sean Lanzillo putting the visitors up 2-0 with just under 30 remaining in half.

WNE would hold back any further attacks from the Colonels, closing out the contest at 2-0 in favor of the visitors.

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Cunningham (Middletown, N.Y) marked two saves in the loss at home.

The Colonels return to the field Wednesday (9/21) as they hit the road to face Fitchburg State University at 4 PM.
