Men's Soccer Draws with Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine - The Curry College men's soccer team played the University of Southern Maine to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Hannaford Field.

With the draw, Curry moves to 1-0-1 overall on the young season.

Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) opened the scoring for Curry in just the seventh minute of play with a highlight-reel tally for his third goal of the season. The sophomore took a headed pass from junior Owen Bynum (York, Maine) and released a left-footed cannon from 25 yards out that sailed into the top left corner of the net to give Curry a 1-0 lead.

With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, USM's David Kita scored his first goal of the season, tying the score at 1-1 just before the halftime horn sounded.

Both teams had chances in the second half, but neither team found the back of the net. Curry landed six shots on target in the final 45 minutes, but none of them broke through to break the deadlock.

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) made five saves for the Colonels to earn the draw, while USM goalkeeper Hayes Estrella turned aside nine shots.

Curry will return to the pitch on Wednesday with a road trip to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
