Men's Soccer Absorbs 3-0 Loss at Roger Williams in CCC Quarterfinals

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 3-0 over Curry College Saturday afternoon.

The top-seeded Hawks improved to 15-4-0 on the season, while the #8 seed Curry concludes the year with an overall record 11-9-0. The Hawks will host the winner of the #4 Nichols/#5 Western New England game.

Saturday's matchup marks the second straight game that the Colonels and the Hawks have faced off. RWU closed out the regular season with a 7-2 win over Curry on Wednesday.

The Hawks caught a break in the first half, when a failed clear by the Colonels ended up as an own goal for Curry, giving RWU an early 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the game.

In the second half, Roger Williams would get an offensive goal less than three minutes into the period. Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, Conn.) sent a long ball to the right side to Trevor Hoxsie (Scarborough, Maine). Hoxsie then crossed the ball into the middle of the box to Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.), who fired in his seventh goal of the year to give RWU a 2-0 lead.

Bradley Macdonald (Topsfield, Mass.) capped off the scoring in the 65th minute. After a Colonel yellow card on a potential breakaway, Macdonald took the ensuing free kick and bent in a long shot to the right for a 3-0 Hawk lead.

The Hawks held a 28-4 advantage in shots taken, holding Curry to only one shot on goal all day.

Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, Mass.) needs to make only one save to earn his fifth shutout of the season. Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) had a busy day in net, making nine saves in the loss. (Game Recap Courtesy of Roger Williams Sports Information)
