2012 All-CCC Men's Soccer Teams Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Student-athletes from all 10 member institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2012 All-CCC Men’s Soccer Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected.  Roger Williams junior Trevor Hoxsie was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, while his teammate, senior Kamali Webson was selected as the CCC Defensive Player of the Year.  Endicott freshman Jordan Daniel was awarded CCC Rookie of the Year, Salve Regina senior Brian Sweeney was honored as CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Roger Williams’ Jim Cook was honored as CCC Coach of the Year.  Wentworth Institue of Technology was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.
 
Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men’s soccer coaches.
 
Joining Hoxsie, Webson, and Daniel on the first team were forwards Scott Coderre (Nichols) and Donny Whittle (Nichols), midfielders Andres Daza (Roger Williams), Bobby Ernst (Salve Regina), and Devin Sadlers (Curry), backs Phil Mitto (Nichols) and Kevin Parma (Western New England), and goalkeeper Aidan McParland (University of New England).
 
Second team selections included forwards Jake Bartnik (Western New England), Daniel Caruso (Roger Williams), Eric Guglielmello (Curry), Rainer Randell (Salve Regina), and Andrew Vandervoort (Gordon), midfielders Edgar Arceo (Eastern Nazarene), Jacob Brigandi (Salve Regina), and Billy Kissane (Roger Williams), backs Paul Arute (Roger Williams), Kevin Gnecco (Endicott), Trevor Hinshaw (Gordon), and Alec Shuman (Salve Regina), and goalkeeper Jon Pelloso (Roger Williams).
 
Receiving honorable mention were forwards Andrew Chenard (Salve Regina), Matthew Christie (University of New England), Scott Hansen (Eastern Nazarene), Nicholas Lawless (Curry), and Fred Willard (Nichols), midfielders Chad Barrett (Western New England), Jake Buzzell (Wentworth),  Shawn DaCruz (Western New England), Nick Gilman (Curry), and Bradley Macdonald (Roger Williams), backs Bobby Jameson (Western New England), Josh Kaplan (Eastern Nazarene), and Joseph Pate (Salve Regina), and goalkeeper Daniel Higgins (Endicott).
 
Hoxsie, a junior forward from Scarborough, Maine, completed the regular season as the top offensive threat on the league’s most prolific offense.  The leading scorer on a Roger Williams team that posted a conference-best 49 goals and a league-high 24 goals, Hoxsie tied for second among CCC players with 12 goals and 27 total points, while tying for sixth in the conference with five assists.  A major offensive threat, Hoxsie also displayed a knack for producing in clutch situations, netting three game-winning goals, including one in CCC competition.

Webson, a senior back from Bellingham, Mass. has long been recognized as a dominating player on both ends of the field.  In addition to anchoring a back line that has allowed a CCC-low 20 goals in 18 matches, including a league-low seven goals in nine CCC matches, Webson is a major force in the offensive end, as well.  In all matches played, Webson is tied for ninth in the CCC with six goals, while also tied for third with four game-winning tallies.  His clutch play was even more evident in conference play, as Webson tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals. 

Daniel, a freshman forward from Canton, Conn. has paid immediate dividends shaping the Gulls into one of the CCC’s most potent offensive sides.  He enters the 2012 CCC Championship as the conference’s leader with 12 goals scored, six game-winning goals and 28 total points in 19 matches, while sitting in a tie for eighth place with four assists.  In CCC play, Daniel also led the league with eight goals, three game-winning goals and 20 total points in nine matches, while also tying for the conference lead with four assists.  Daniel’s play helped Endicott (9-6-4 overall, 4-2-3 CCC) secure the CCC tournament’s third seed for the first time since 2005.

Sweeney, a senior midfielder from Waldoboro, Maine is a prime example of the ideal Division III student-athlete.  On the pitch, Sweeney played an integral role in leading Salve Regina to the second seed in the upcoming CCC Championship following a 13-5-1 regular season, including a 6-3-0 tally in conference play.  Academically, the international studies major and film minor is a four-time recipient of the Salve Regina University Presidential Scholarship recipient, the University’s highest-possible award for academic merit.  Sweeney has earned Dean’s List recognition every semester of his college career.  A three-year team mentor and tutor who is heavily involved in numerous campus organizations and activities, Sweeney was a 2012 inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society.  He also received NSCAA Scholar All-East Region honorable mention in 2011.

Cook, originally named RWU’s head coach in 1990, returned to that position in 1997 following four seasons at UMass-Dartmouth.  He is being recognized as CCC Coach of the Year for the fifth time since 1998.  Under Cook’s guidance this season, the Hawks enter the 2012 CCC Championship as the number one seed after posting a 14-4-0 overall record, including a league-best 8-1-0 CCC mark.  RWU, currently ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III New England region rankings, will be looking to capture the program’s eighth conference title under Cook’s leadership.
