Men's Soccer Shuts Out Visiting Johnson State, 4-0

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Johnson State University, 4-0, in men's soccer action on Saturday in Milton.  With the win, the Colonel’s improve to 2-1 overall. The badger’s fell to 0-3 on the season.

The Colonels got on the board quickly, scoring their first goal just 26 seconds into the opening frame. Senior Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass.) scored his first goal of two on the day, at the 44:34 minute mark, off a crossed pass from senior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.). Just 1:33 later, freshman Rolando Montero (Norwalk, Conn.) scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick after a Johnson State defender caused a foul inside the 18-yard box. Curry kept the pressure on and was able to put up two more before the half ended.  With 30:39 showing on the clock, sophomore Nick Gilman (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season off an assist by Sadlers. Guglielmello finished the Colonels scoring with 27:44 minutes left to play in the first half.

The Colonels were able to play almost all of their players in the contest.  Although Curry outshot Johnson State in the final frame, they were unable to score, but finished with the 4-0, victory.

The Colonel’s finished with a game total of 37 shots, 17 on net, 14 corner kicks and nine fouls.  The Badger’s finished with seven shots, four on goal, one corner kick and three fouls.

Curry’s freshman goaltender, Andrew Knighton (Lisbon, N.H.), earned the win in net while making four stops. Johnson State’s, freshman netminder, Alex Pakatar (Troy, N.J.) made 13 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will host Lyndon State on Sunday, September 9, for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Johnson State will host Newbury College on Sunday, September 9 for a 3:00 p.m. game start.
