2011 All-CCC Men's Soccer Team Announced

Springfield, Mass. - Student-athletes from nine different institutions in the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2011 All-CCC Men’s Soccer Team, it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. 

In addition to the all-conference team, seven major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected. Gordon College sophomore Andrew Vandervoort was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, Western New England senior Shawn Fitzpatrick, Nichols senior David Johnson, and Gordon senior Micah Linn share the CCC Defensive Player of the Year recognition, freshman Kristian Kasiguran was chosen CCC Rookie of the Year, Gordon’s Blake Burkey was honored as CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Western New England’s Erin Sullivan was honored as CCC Coach of the Year and University of New England was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among CCC men’s soccer coaches.

Joining Vandervoort, Fitzpatrick, Johnson, and Linn on the first team were forwards Trevor Hoxsie (Roger Williams), Daniel Caruso (Roger Williams), and Scott Coderre (Nichols), midfielders Kellen Kasiguran (Gordon), and Eric Marcelino (Western New England), back Kamali Webson (Roger Williams), and goalkeeper Domenick Villano (Western New England).

Second team selections included forwards Jake Bartnik (Western New England), Kiel Hiller (University of New England) and Ryan Williams (Western New England), midfielders Andres Daza (Roger Williams), Corey Howard (Western New England), Sean McAllister (Salve Regina) and Devin Sadlers (Curry), backs Bobby Jameson (Western New England), Ian Jentgen (Salve Regina), and Kevin Parma (Western New England), and goalkeeper  Brendan Hamilton (Nichols).              

Receiving honorable mention were forwards Pat Gaumond (Nichols), Eric Gulielmello (Curry), Alex Jorge (Endicott), and Christopher Knoth (Salve Regina), midfielders Jake Buzzell (Wentworth), Billy Kissane (Roger Williams), Danny Smith (Nichols), and  Brendan Whitson (Nichols),  backs Jon Axton (Western New England), Nicodemo Carmarda (Salve Regina), Ryan D’Amico (Endicott) and Mike Digman (Wentworth), and goalkeeper Jonathan Pelloso (Roger Williams).

Vandervoort, a sophomore forward from Memphis, Tenn., was the driving behind the Fighting Scots’ offense and led the team in points (25), goals (12) and game-winning goals (4). The two-time All-CCC selection also ranks within the top of the league in several offense categories, including goals (tied-1st), points (2nd), and game-winning goals (4th). His play helped the Scots set a CCC mark of 6-1-2 (7-7-3 overall), which secured the #2 seed in the upcoming CCC Championship. In addition, Vandervoort is ranked 31st nationally among Division III players in goals scored this season.

Fitzpatrick, a senior midfielder from Burnt Hills, N.Y. has been the anchor of the stingiest defense in the league, which has allowed opponents to score only12 goals for a goals against average of 0.62. With the help of the backline, the Golden Bears have collected eight shutouts and an unblemished conference record of 9-0, which has earned them the top seed in the CCC Championship. Fitzpatrick has also contributed as an offensive power, as he ranks fourth in the league in points (22), tied for second for assists (8), tied for fifth for goals (7), and tied for third for game-winning goals (3). Nationally, the Golden Bears are ranked 30th among 396 NCAA Division III programs in goals against average (0.65).

Johnson, a senior back from Canterbury, Conn. has helped the Bison to another solid year, leading the team to an overall record of 10-4-2 with a 5-3-1 CCC mark. The team captain’s defensive skills have been an asset to the second-highest ranked backline in the CCC for goals allowed (19) and tied for fourth in shutouts (5) among CCC squads. The Bison look to repeat as CCC Champions and enter the conference tournament as the #3 seed.

Linn, a senior back from Germantown, Tenn., has been a key player in the Fighting Scots’ CCC record of 6-1-2 with an overall mark of 7-7-3. The Scots have a solid defensive line that ranked third in shutouts among CCC programs (6), and fifth in goals against average (1.24). Nationally, the team ranks in the top 25 percent of NCAA Division III programs in shutout percentage (0.38). The team heads into the league tournament as the #2 seed.

Kasiguran, a freshman midfielder from Oakwood Village, Ohio, was an asset to the offensive line for the Fighting Scots. The rookie made an appearance in each of the team’s 17 games in the 2011 season, and started in 11, and is currently tied for third on his team with assists (2). The Scots are currently ranked seventh in assists (17) and eighth in goals (22) among CCC members.

Berkey, a native of Akron, Ohio, has accumulated an untainted GPA of 4.0 in Finance with a minor in Pre-law. He is involved in several campus organizations such as Gordon’s Economics and Business Organization (EBO), which allow him to practice his knowledge attained in the classroom. Berkey’s involvement with athletics extends beyond the soccer pitch, as he is a Student Business Manager at Gordon’s Bennett Athletic and Recreation Center. He was also a recent recipient of the Wood Memorial Scholarship in May of 2011.

Sullivan is in his 12th year of coaching the Golden Bears and has garnered his third award with the CCC. Entering into the conference tournament, his teams have collected a stunning overall record of 169-73-76. His current squad has record a perfect 9-0 mark in CCC play, and 15-3-1 overall ranking the Golden Bears 32nd of 396 NCAA Division III programs. In the most recent NCAA Division III regional rankings, WNE was ranked fourth in New England. The team secured the top seed heading into the CCC Tournament.
