Men's Soccer Downs Visiting Wheelock College, 10-0

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Wheelock College, 10-0, in non-conference action on Monday night in Milton.  With the win the Colonels improve to 9-6-1 overall.  The Wildcats fell to 0-9 overall.

Curry controlled the entire first half, outshooting Wheelock, 28-1.  The Colonels were able to post five goals in frame.   Curry got on the board first just 7:22 minutes in.   Senior James Dunphy (Hanover, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal off a loose ball in front of the net.  The Wildcats’ senior goalkeeper Bobby Venning (Greenfield, N.H.) held Curry scoreless over the next 17 minutes until Dunphy scored his second of the night, another unassisted.  The Colonels scored two more goals just 2:14 minutes after Dunphys’ goal.  Freshman Conal Koppisch (Willimantic, Conn.) earned his first goal of the season off a corner kick by teammate freshman Cameron Bartley (Andover, Mass.).  The fourth goal came just 25 seconds later from freshman Ethan Ford (Brunswick, Maine).  Freshman Nicolas Chavez-Oramas (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.  Curry’s final goal of the half was scored by senior Benjamin Harvitt (Warren, N.J.) on an assist by freshman Jonathan Hurley (Foxboro, Mass.)

Curry ended the first with 28 shots, 18 on net, eight corners and three fouls.  Wheelock managed to get just one shot on net. 

It didn’t take the Colonels long to put up their sixth goal of the evening.  At the 39:38 minute mark, junior Michael Quintanilla (Norwood, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal off a rebound from the Wildcats’ goalkeeper.   Freshman Brendon Doherty (Winchester, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Harvitt. Harvitt crossed the ball from the corner of the field and Doherty one-timed it into the back of the net.  Quintanilla posted his second goal of the night just over a minute later off an assist from freshman Christian DeMaria (Canton, Conn.).  Ford was the third Colonel to score twice in the game when he was sent a through pass by junior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.).  The final goal of the night came from junior Daniel Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.) assisted by Bartley. 

Curry finished with 51 shots, 36 on net, 13 corners and three fouls. Wheelock finished the game with two shots, one on net and three fouls. 

Senior goaltender Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) played in net for the first half making just one save. Junior Brandon Martins (Attleboro, Mass.) made his first appearance in net for the Colonels but didn’t see a shot in the second half.  Venning made 26 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will travel to Wentworth on Thursday, October 13 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game for a 4:00 p.m. contest. The Wildcats hosts Daniel Webster on Saturday, October 15 for a 2:00 p.m. game start.
