Sadlers Scores Game-Winner in Overtime to Defeat Eastern Nazarene, 2-1

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Eastern Nazarene, 2-1 in overtime, in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer action on Saturday in Milton.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the CCC.  The Lions fell to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the CCC.

In the Lions third conference match of the season and hoping for their first CCC victory, they were the first to get on the board.  Freshman Austin Boucher (Mansfield, Mass.) scored his teams’ lone goal off an assist by freshman Cameron McCormack (Griswold, Conn.) just 16:47 into the game.  The Colonels had their chances to tie the game but couldn’t find the back of the net.  Freshman Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) made four saves to keep Curry scoreless and lead his team into intermission with the 1-0 advantage.

ENC ended the half with eight shots, six on net, three corners and four fouls.  Curry ended with seven shots, three on net, three corners and four foul.  Senior goaltender Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) made five saves.

Curry controlled the second half outshooting Eastern Nazarene, 15-5.  The Colonels didn’t waste much time to tie the game at one apiece when freshman Nick Gilman (Longmeadow, Mass) scored off an assist from junior Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass).  Despite Curry’s 15 shots, they couldn’t find the back of the net and the teams finished the 90 minutes with a 1-1 tie.  The squads had a five minute break before starting the 10 minute sudden death overtime.

In overtime, the Colonels were the only ones to get a shot off.  Curry had two shots, one which was the game-winner.  The Lions couldn’t get control of the ball to get off any of their own shots.  With just 26 seconds to play, Eastern Nazarene committed a foul inside the box which led to a penalty kick.  Junior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) was awarded the PK and shot the ball in the lower left corner of the net for the win.
The Lions finished with 13 total shots, eight on goal, five corner kicks and 11 fouls.  The Colonels finished with 24 shots, 14 on goal, eight corner kicks and 14 fouls.
