Men's Soccer Edged at Emmanuel College, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Soccer Team upended the visiting Colonels of Curry College, 1-0, in a non-conference battle played under the lights at Clemente Field. The one-goal win marked the Saints’ fifth shutout in eight games.  A goal by sophomore forward Allan Parrelli (Reading, Mass.) in the 37th minute held up as the game-winner for the hosts.

The contest was evenly matched and played physically throughout.  Curry maintained a slight edge in shots taken in the first half with seven, compared to six by Emmanuel.  Parrelli’s goal came at 36:30, when he bent a corner kick past Curry’s senior goalie Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.). This was Parrelli’s third marker of the season, as Emmanuel took the one goal edge into the break at halftime.

The two clubs fired off seven shots apiece in the second stanza.  The contest got more and more physical as the tension mounted and the game progressed.  The game became chippy with 31 fouls called on the night.

The Saints’ defense played tough down the stretch and stifled the few late-game Curry opportunities inside the box.  Senior keeper Patrick Froass (Oneida, N.Y.) picked up the win for Emmanuel, making four saves and notching his second shutout of the season.  Newsome made one first half save for Curry and was replaced by James Oliver (Hanover, Mass.), who made two second half saves for the Colonels.

After seven meetings between these two programs, Curry leads the series, 4-3.  With the win, Emmanuel improves to 3-1-4 overall, while Curry drops to 4-4 on the year.  The Saints play at home again this Saturday, returning to GNAC action, when they host Mount Ida College in a noontime start.  Curry will play at Coast Guard on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
