Men's Soccer Defeats Anna Maria 3-0 For Season's First Conference Win

 MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Anna Maria 3-0 on Saturday in Milton.  With the win the Colonels improve to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Amcats fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the TCCC. 

The Colonels dominated the first half, out-shooting the Amcats 21-5.  Anna Maria’s goalkeeper senior Mike Dandurand (Commack, NY) made 12 saves in a solid effort in net.  Dandurand held the Colonels to just one goal.  Curry’s score came at the 21:59 mark when sophomore Devin Sadlers (Somerset, MA) sent a through ball to sophomore Brandon Martins (Attleboro, MA). 

The Amcats got control of the ball early to start the second half.  Anna Maria had three shots, one on net, and three corner kicks in just the first five minutes.  The Colonels first shot of the half resulted in a goal by freshman Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, MA).  Freshman Brendan Lonek (Epping, NH) assisted on Guglielmellos’ goal.  The Amcats struggled to get their momentum back after their effort in the first five minutes, but still were able to put more pressure on the Colonels defense than they did in the first half.  The Colonels took a 3-0 lead when freshman Ephesien Simpson (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) collected a deflected ball from an Anna Maria defender.  Simpson’s goal would be the game-winner.

Curry finished with an impressive 29 shots, 19 of those shots on net.  Anna Maria had a total of 20 shots, 15 coming in the second, but just nine of those landing on net.

Dandurand made 16 saves in net for Anna Maria. Junior goalkeeper Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, NJ) made nine saves in net for the win.

The Colonels travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday, September 21 for a 4:00 p.m. game. Anna Maria will host Nichols College on Wednesday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m.
