NORTON, MA- The Brandeis University men's soccer team used goals from four different players on its way to a 4-0 win over Curry College in the final game of the Adidas Kick-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon at Wheaton College's Keefe Field.
The shutout was the second in as many days for the Judges, who improved to 2-0 with the win, while Curry fell to 1-2.
Sophomore Joe Eisenbies (Hingham, MA/Hingham) scored the game-winner at 4:48 on a feed from freshman Ben Applefield (Avon, CT/Avon). Eisenbies collected Applefield's on the left wing and fired a shot from just outside the penalty hash and beyond the dive of freshman goalkeeper James Oliver (Hanover, MA/Hanover). It marked the second game-winner in as many days for Eisenbies, who tallied the winner during the Brandeis' 2-0 victory over Rutgers University at Camden on Saturday.
Sophomore Lee Russo (Westford, MA/Westford Academy), who finished the game with a team-high five shots, gave the Judges a 2-0 halftime advantage on an unassisted goal with 17:55 left in the first half. Russo took a long clearing kick from senior goalkeeper Taylor Bracken (North Andover, MA/Saint John's Prep) and beat two defenders on his own to collect his first goal of the year. Brandeis finished the half with a 10-1 advantage in shots.
Applefield added a goal to his first-half assist at the 64:11 mark. The score came after a long carry down the left sideline. Junior Luke Teece (Tucson, AZ/University) completed the scoring on another unassisted score with just 3:45 remaining. It was the second goal in two days for Teece.
Brandeis finished with a 19-4 advantage in shots and 5-3 edge in corners. Bracken was credited with three saves in 73:25 for the Judges, while Oliver made eight saves for the Colonels.
