Men's Soccer Season Comes to an End with 2-1 Loss at Roger Williams University in TCCC Quarterfinals

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men’s Soccer team advanced to the second round of the TCCC Playoffs on Saturday as they defeated the Colonels from Curry College by a score of 2-1. The Colonels led 1-0 after the first half, but the Hawks battled back scoring two unanswered goals to secure the victory and move on.

Play in the first half was controlled by Curry. They were able to jump out to an early lead in the 24th minute as Zachary Kumin (Needham, Mass.) scored on a one timer set up by Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.). Curry had a chance to take a commanding two goal lead, but came up short as Sadlers took a cross from Matt Boyle (Redlands, Calif.) and headed it into the left post narrowly missing a golden opportunity.

The Hawks would come out strong in the second half, scoring their first goal in the 67th minute. Josh Boyce (Peabody, Mass.) was able to hammer home a one-timer in the box set up by Jared Falconer (Ludlow, Mass.) to even the game at one goal apiece. Just six minutes later D.J. Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) got the game winner as he snuck in a long shot from well outside the box which found the back of the net.

Curry would have another chance to get their second goal and tie things up in the 86th minute as Sadlers had a clear shot at the net, however Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) came out and cut off the angle and was able to make a save on the point blank shot. Plate would record four saves in the victory while Brian Newsome (Lawrenceville, N.J.) had three saves of his own.

With the loss the Colonels season comes to a close while the Hawks move on the semi-finals of the TCCC Playoffs, on Tuesday. Time and opponent are yet to be determined.
