Men's Lacrosse Falls to New England College 25-11

Henniker, N.H. – New England College’s John Gabriel (West Nyack, N.Y.) and Damian Carey (Medford, N.Y.) each netted six goals and dished out three assists leading the Pilgrims past the visiting Curry College Colonels 25-11 Tuesday afternoon in Henniker.

With the win the Pilgrims extend their winning streak to four games improving to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.  The loss drops the Colonels to 8-5 on the season and 4-3 in the TCCC.

The Pilgrims would jump out to the early 5-0 lead before Curry’s Michael Snyder (Lee, Mass.) and Russell Lanham (Silver Springs, Md.) would score back-to-back goals cutting the lead to 5-2 with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The two teams would continue to battle back-and-forth but it would be the Pilgrims who would avail closing out the half on a 4-2 run to head into halftime up 13-6.

NEC would pick up where they left off in the opening half outscoring Curry 5-1 in the opening 10 minutes in the third quarter extending their lead to 18-7.  The Colonels would respond with three goals in a three minute span slicing the lead to 18-10 but the Pilgrims would outscore Curry 6-1 in the final quarter cruising to the 25-11 victory.

NEC’s Matt Carey (Medford, N.Y.) netted four goals and had an assist and Matt Vozzolo (Somers, Conn.) scored twice and had an assist.

Leading the way for Curry was Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.) and Michael Snyder who each netted three goals.  Curry’s Evan Hammersley (Lynnfied, Mass.) and Russell Leanham each scored twice and had an assist.

Picking up the win in goal for NEC was Nick Fischer (S. Burlington, Vt.) who finished with nine saves.  In goal for Curry was Gordon Holmes (Brookfield, Conn) who made five saves.
