Men's Lacrosse Falls to Gordon College 16-10

WENHAM, Mass. -- The Gordon Men's Lacrosse team continued their winning ways, picking up their 6th straight victory with a convincing 16-10 defeat of Curry. The win moves Gordon to 7-3 overall and keeps them in a virtual tie for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference at 5-1. Curry drops to 8-4 overall and is 4-2 in league play.

Gordon pulled away in the second half, outscoring Curry 10-5, after holding just a 6-5 lead at the intermission. Dan Utz led all players with four goals and three assists. The balanced Scots' attack also included three goals by Danny Mack and two apiece by Zac Blue, Joel Derechinsky, and James Blue. Curry was led by junior Michael Snyder (Lee, Mass.) who had four goals.

Sophomore Evan Hammersley (Lynnfield, Mass.) staked the Colonels to an early lead as he struck in the game's 2nd minute. However, Gordon ripped off four consecutive goals, as Mack, Dan Castelline, Zac Blue, and Utz all scored in the first period. Gordon held a 5-3 lead after the first stanza, but stout defensive play by Curry allowed the visitors to draw within 6-5 at the break.

That was as close as the contest would be, as Gordon utilized their opportunities from five second half penalties to score three goals with the man advantage in the second half.

Scot's' goalkeeper Tyler Humpton upped his record to 2-1 and posted seven saves in the process. Freshman goalie Benjamin Stewart played the final 2:36 of the game and made two saves. Curry's sophomore Michael Hibbard (Chelmsford, Mass.) had eight stops.

Gordon outshot Curry 41-28 and held a 33-24 advantage in ground balls. Stuart Knechtle easily led all players with 14 ground balls.

Gordon will return to action on Tuesday at 4PM when they play at Nichols.  Curry travels to New England College on April 13 for a 4:00 p.m game start.
